Every coat, every meal, every haircut, every toy under the tree — it’s how we keep Derek’s dream alive.
What started as a simple act of love has grown into a year-round mission to serve people who are too often forgotten. We meet our neighbors where they are — on the street, in the shelter, leaving the hospital, heading back to school — and we hand them something real: dignity, warmth, and the knowledge that someone showed up for them.
We’re not a building. We’re a community of people who refuse to let anyone go without.
What we do
Seven ways Derek’s Closet shows up for our community every year.
Winter Warmth Drive
Coats, gloves, hats, boots, and warm clothing distributed throughout the coldest months — because no one should have to choose between staying warm and staying fed.
Community Food Drive
Hot meals, grocery boxes, and shelf-stable staples reaching unhoused neighbors and food-insecure families across our community.
Christmas Toy Drive
Every child deserves something to unwrap. We collect and distribute new toys so kids in struggling families wake up to Christmas morning with the rest of us.
Hospital-to-Home Support
Helping discharged patients cover small co-pays for medications and equipment they need to recover safely at home — bridging the gap between the hospital door and their front door.
Back-to-School Drive
Backpacks, supplies, and the basics every kid needs to walk into the first day of school feeling ready — not left out.
Community Haircut Days
Free haircuts for neighbors who need to feel human again. Sometimes confidence starts in a barber’s chair.
Fundraising Events
Throughout the year we host events that bring our community together to raise the resources that keep all of this possible. Every dollar goes back into the work.
